According to the World Health Organization, heart disease is the leading cause of death globally over the last 15 years. As a result, the need for better diagnostic testing is essential for the management of this disease. Both Echocardiography and Vascular Sonography are more and more being widely utilized by medical professionals for the assessment and treatment of their patients. The demand for these procedures magnified the need for competent sonographers and the lack of training for such healthcare professionals. Thus, the HB Calleja Center for Cardiovascular Technology (HBC CCT) was established in 2009 in San Juan City, Metro Manila. The school was appropriately named after Dr. Homobono B. Calleja, one of the Philippines’ leading Cardiologists and the founding President of the Philippine Society of Echocardiography (PSE).
